Abstract:
Soil samples were taken from two soil layers in the Pilotexperiment for C and N analysis in Winter 2010 . This work aimed to get a general idea about the C and N concentrations and the uniformity among the four different blocks of the Pilot Experiment.
Design:
Soil samples were taken with a standard soil corer (diameter 1.3 cm, Eijkelkamp) from two different soil layers of the mineral soil: 0-10 cm and 15 - 25 cm. The two soil layers correspond with the injection of 15N tracers in 5 cm and 25 cm soil depth. There were three sample locations in each block: one in the middle and two at the end resulting in 6 soil samples per block and in 24 samples for the whole Pilot Experiment (2 soil layers x 3 locations x 4 blocks). Samples were sieved (2mm), dried at low temperature (30°C) in the drying oven. In Beijing samples were ground and analyzed using an elemental analyzer available at the CN lab of Prof. Jin-Sheng He.
