Abstract:
Comprehensive dataset for cavity-nesting solitary bees, wasps, and their natural enemies from 212 plots in sites A and B. Collected in 2024 as a complementary dataset to the long-term IOZ 88-plot trapnest dataset, with the goal of reaching a combined 300 plots sampled.
Design:
One pole positioned per plot (approx 1.2m tall), holding two PVC tubes (12.5 cm diameter × 22 cm length) filled with 75±9 (SD) internodes of Giant cane (Arundo donax) of 20 cm length and diameters ranging between 1 mm and 20 mm. 212 plots total in two sites A and B. Trapnests were exposed from March 2024 to October 2024 (included), and checked once per month for occupied reeds. Occupied reeds were removed and replaced with empty ones of same diameter. Occupied reeds were taken to the lab, opened, and reared in glass tubes. Adults were identified to species/morphospecies following reference specimens from previous sampling campaigns and published dicothomous keys. Voucher specimes are currently located at the Xingangshan research facility.
